1 CAIML Mission

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML) was founded in fall 2021 as an interfacultary cooperation center at TU Wien. Stefan Woltran and myself serve as Co-Directors.

The mission of CAIML is to establish TU Wien as an Austrian center of excellence in artificial intelligence and machine learning, both in their foundations as well as in their applications, and to be a leader in (1) methods of artificial intelligence, (2) methods of machine learing, and (3) explainable artificial intelligence and artificial-intelligence aspects of digital humanism.

The activities of the center include a visiting-fellows program, a seminar series, the organization of summer schools, and the coordination and support of research projects and proposals. In particular, it serves as the connection to various international initiatives such as AIDA.

A board that consists of twelve renowned researchers from the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Mathematics and Geoinformation is responsible for the strategic and professional development of the center. Furthermore, the board consults with an international advisory board.
